| The roots of Chester Hoist date back to the
1920's when Mr. Hal Wright Sr. developed the Wright
Hoist in Lisbon, Ohio. The Wright Hoist Company was sold in 1928
and later moved to York, Pennsylvania. In 1942, Mr. Hal
Wright Jr. followed his father into the hoist business
and started the Chester Manufacturing Company. Using a design
similar to his father's he began manufacturing hoists
in Lisbon, Ohio under the Chester brand name. |

Since the
1940's high quality standards and qualification testing have positioned
Chester Hoist as a major supplier of hoists to the U.S.
Military. In fact, Chester Hoist is still the only qualified
supplier for certain classes of hoists for the Department of
Defense. |
| In 1986 Chester Hoist purchased
the Coffing Worm Drive Electric Wire Rope Hoist line from
the Duff-Norton Company and began manufacturing the line in Lisbon under
the Chester Label. In 1989 Chester Hoist began
manufacturing ultra low headroom electric chain hoists. This
line, in addition to low headroom wire rope hoists and
"Zephyr" low headroom manual hoists, makes Chester the
industry leader in close headroom hoists. Chester offers
the lowest headroom available in more models and capacities of manual
and electric hoists than any other domestic manufacturer. In
1995 Chester Hoist became part of the Columbus McKinnon family of
companies. Columbus McKinnon is a broad line designer,
manufacturer and supplier of material handling products and integrated
material handling solutions with 4350 employees at 76 locations in 14
countries and 11,000 distributors worldwide. |
